Rowly Brown what is your role at TriEx?
I am the Safety Advisor in the TriEx Team. This is a diverse role that delivers a great mix of theory and practical assistance to our clients. The development of health & safety systems for effectively complying with legal duties, implementing ‘best practice” standards, and managing risks is critical to business survival. Hands-on advice on technical issues such as machine guarding, hazardous substance management, controlling contaminants and health hazards, delivering training courses helps our clients put the theory into practice.
I also support the Occupational Hygiene service at TriEx by sharing the noise monitoring work.
Having been a business manager, a senior DoL Health & Safety Inspector, and an independent advisor enables me to balance the compliance requirements with the realities of the business environment. Add that to the knowledge and skill base of the rest of the TriEx team and we have an incredible resource we can offer our clients.
What does it mean that you do and what do you love the most about that?
I prepare health and safety documentation for clients. This includes operating procedures and forms for use to direct their health & safety activity and record it. This is typically to audit standards such as NZS 4801:2001, and standards required by major corporates of their contractors.
I provide the training that clients need to enable their staff to understand and implement the procedures we write.
I audit workplaces against acceptable health & safety standards and advise where and how to improve.
I enjoy the opportunity to visit different work environments and engage with people at all levels. Sharing knowledge that people can use is very satisfying, but after nearly 30 years doing it I’m still learning.
In addition to work how do you like to invest your time?
I’ll happily watch all sports. I’m an avid tennis fan and play as often as I can, competitively and socially. I play Touch Ten rugby in the winter when it doesn’t clash with tennis tournaments.I seem to get myself drafted onto committees for my sports.
Socialising with friends over a beer or a wine is a regular occurrence. Family feature in that activity a lot too. I enjoy a wide range of musical styles and go to a few live shows each year with friends.
My children live on the Gold Coast of Australia so keeping in touch with their journey through life is important to me, and an annual visit is great. I’d like to travel more, Europe, Asia, and Wimbledon!
